Intimate Stranger: Under [Album Review]

intimate-stranger

On their sophomore release, you can expect a fresh new batch of the same Intimate Stranger you may or may not have already introduced into your daily living. But, with just a bit of a twist. Under follows suit with this internationally based indie rock group’s common style that has been acclaimed all over the world. But unlike some poor unfortunate miners in Chile, one of the band’s many homesteads, these cats can crawl out of their basic workings for at least a short while. The Prids: Chronosynclastic [Album Review]

the-prids

Here is a simple code that one should always abide by when choosing new music to listen to: if Henry Rollins and David Martsch both think the band rocks, they do indeed rock. Not to be idealistic, but these guys know their shit. Case in point – The Prids. Hailed by both of the aforementioned geniuses as a terrific act, they are indeed a delight. And their one billionth (give your take) release Chronosynclastic might be there biggest and brightest release to date as they display a passion of ear shattering pop music that is down right lovable. Children Of Mercy: Tales and Teachings From The World Of Independent Music

Children Of Mercy: Tales and Teachings From The World Of Independent Music

With the holiday season upon us, and almost nearing completion, it might be a good time to start thinking about one of the finer, and probably more noble, sides of the season The Giving. But, as most of us know, but may not want to admit, sometimes the benefit of giving is actually the getting. So how we solve the dilemma of trying to give back, and at the same time receiving something awesome in return? I’d like to say, there’s an app for that. And there may very well be. But, there is also a nice charity project in development that could very well offer just what we need.

Peggy Sue: Fossils and Other Phantoms [Album Review]

peggy-sue

There aren’t many things as enticing as dueling female folk vocals. It’s a form of expression that invokes a sort of spirit that lies in the lowest depths of the canals of history. Storytelling has always been an important aspect of our lives, whether we choose to define it as so simply or not. And a group like Peggy Sue seem to think that storytelling through folk music is the premiere opportunity to let the soul release, as well as dig deep into our own psyche to understand what it means to have lived. These dueling females and a drummer have stumbled upon something truly unique with their album Fossils and Other Phantoms. Read More »Peggy Sue: Fossils and Other Phantoms [Album Review]

Jon Hardy & The Public: A Hard Year [mp3]

john-hardy-public

Jon Hardy‘s songs are always thought provoking. And they always seem to have some sort of generation-specific inspiration. Yet his sweet melodies and tantalizing lyrics don’t seem to remind you of any other specific artist. And as it is commonly known to some artists: The more you build on an influence, the more original you become. Hardy seemed to reach back to the 90’s pop rock scene to create “A Hard Year”, the title track from his forthcoming Jon Hardy & The Public EP. Read More »Jon Hardy & The Public: A Hard Year [mp3]

Alexipharmic: Good Side Of Bad Vol. 3 [Album Review]

alexipharmic

Oh dear Alexi and your consistently inspiring lyrical madness. Each time you show us a Good Side of Bad, it seems impossible to be even more impressed than the last time. Yes, Alexipharmic is back with a brand new batch of highly intelligent hip hop based words to beat that are guaranteed to make you think as much as you are sure to dance. Although the high pitched glory of his full fledged album American Beauty has long and disappeared into the depths of history, our man brought back that same spirit to his latest volume of self conceited releases known as Good Side Of Bad. Honestly enough, this third volume is not only the best of the series, but the best our man has ever created. Read More »Alexipharmic: Good Side Of Bad Vol. 3 [Album Review]

Strength: Mind-Reader [Album Review]

strength-band

Strength is a group that is so unburdened by formalities that it’s almost unfathomable. There style is beyond formative, it’s a splendid blast from the past unlike much of anything you have heard in well over 20 years. It’s like the reincarnation of Daft Punk with vocal duties from the likes of Prince. Mind-Reader, the band’s sophomore release, is a gentle smash to the throat, and a kick in the pants that will undoubtedly make you want boogie and thrash the night away. Hosannas: Together [Album Review]

hosannas-01

Amongst the thousands of hipsters, anti-hipsters, and anti-anti-hipsters roaming around the City of Roses banging away at whatever obscure instrument they can grasp with a tall boy of PBR in their hand, two of the finest individuals to burst out from the scene might be that very scene’s polar opposites. The multitasking duo Hosannas are fully fledged artists who find their niche in making keyboard frenzied indie rock lullabies like those found on their latest record Together. It is not only their best work to date, it might very well be one of the finest independent albums to come spew from the gutters of P town. Read More »Hosannas: Together [Album Review]

Gunslinger: Early Volumes 1 [Album Review]

gunslinger

What in the sweet hell is going on here? Who is this Gunslinger and how has he somehow managed to infiltrate the world of regular atmospheric rock and roll, and turn it into a danceable bit of electronica that never really seems to lose its artistic touch. If something doesn’t seem just right about Early Volumes 1, it’s only because all the perquisites of regular dance music has suddenly take a strange and crazy original turn towards indie rock, and collided with a massive soundscape of very fresh sounds.
