Children Of Mercy: Tales and Teachings From The World Of Independent Music

Children Of Mercy: Tales and Teachings From The World Of Independent Music

With the holiday season upon us, and almost nearing completion, it might be a good time to start thinking about one of the finer, and probably more noble, sides of the season The Giving. But, as most of us know, but may not want to admit, sometimes the benefit of giving is actually the getting. So how we solve the dilemma of trying to give back, and at the same time receiving something awesome in return? I’d like to say, there’s an app for that. And there may very well be. But, there is also a nice charity project in development that could very well offer just what we need.

What Is Zoophyte? (Ödland’s Latest Tease)

odland

Once again teasing us with creative bits of art is French band Ödland, this time with a series of photographs of the always stunning Alizée Bingöllü. With these photographs comes a rambling message clouded in mystery, reproduced in part here. Ödland has always blended their very unique style of underground French classical pop with the artistic, a feat they accomplish gracefully with these teasers. Read More »What Is Zoophyte? Carissa’s Wierd Reissues Update

carissas-wierd

If you spent any extended period alone in personal confinement during the early days of the century, and you had a predilection toward mopey, soft pop, you may have let the hours wane away dwelling on the heartbreaking bedroom-ish pop of Carissa’s Wierd. If you didn’t, you should have as it is some of the best music created both during and post 90s. Little known, and with even littler quantities of albums produced, many long-time fans cheered quietly when Hardly Art announced a cherished set of reissues. Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band Announce New Album

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band

Dead Oceans announced yesterday the sophomore release by Portland’s Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, titled Where The Messengers Meet. The album, out August 3, hits about a year and a half after the band’s self-titled debut. That album came in just outside our top 10 album of 2009 thanks to angular, erratic, and often hauntingly frantic musicianship fronted by expert, harmonic vocals. Read More »Mt. Recommended Show: Hey Marseilles’ LP Release Shows

Hey Marseilles

The show is just one week away, so you have no excuse: go mark your calendar! Hey Marseilles has been dubbed one of the Northwest’s “bands to watch” by many, myself included. Thus, I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering when these guys will head to Bellingham. They are on the cusp of releasing their debut LP, To Travels & Trunks, slated for a late June drop date. To celebrate the arrival of the album on vinyl, the Seattle band will play two shows in their hometown, one of them all ages. Read More »Recommended Show: Hey Marseilles’ LP Release Shows

Recommended Show: Daniel Francis Doyle at Comet Tavern

Daniel Francis Doyle

Daniel Francis Doyle hits Seattle later this week and will perform at Comet Tavern. Doyle is a one man math rock band and he pumps out pointed guitar riffs, obscure percussive genius, and wildly intellectual wordsmith-ery. No doubt you’ll see several off last year’s We Bet Our Money On You, possibly including favorites “Cursive” and “Old Lives”. Read More »Recommended Show: Daniel Francis Doyle at Comet Tavern

Railcars 12″ EP Giveaway

railcars

If you’ve been following FensePost for a while, you may have heard of Railcars. We premiered a song off their EP Cathedral With No Eyes back when it was just a demo, and we had great things to say about their debut 7″ single Cities Vs. Submarines as well. So yeah, we’ve been a fan of these guys for some time. Railcars is an experimental noise pop outfit from San Francisco fronted by Aria Jalali, and we’re now giving them more love by giving away a copy of last year’s Cathedral EP. Salmon Thrasher CD Discharge Party

Salmon Thrasher

It’s finally here — the Salmon Thrasher debut CD release party. Although they’re calling it a “discharge” party, which conjures all sorts of unpleasant images. But then again, they are a band named Salmon Thrasher, so what can you expect?. The debut album is called What Gives and you can pick it up over at their bankcamp page. The “Discharge Party” kicks off at 9pm this Saturday (April 17) at Blue Moon Tavern. The band will play with My Goodness and Police Teeth. Read More »Salmon Thrasher CD Discharge Party

Papercuts Go Sub Pop!

papercuts

Sub Pop announced yesterday that they have a new artist on their roster, one cherished throughout the independent music community. Yes, they have signed Papercuts for the band’s next album, slated for a tentative 2011 release. As a pretty big fan of both Papercuts and Sub Pop, you bet I’m pretty stoked! The band comes off a very successful 2009, in which they released the astounding You Can Have What You Want to critical acclaim. Read More »Papercuts Go Sub Pop!
