Woodhands [Feature Band]

Woodhands

Written by Fense

Woodhands are a Canadian duo that selectively mixes female vocals (think Au Revoir Simone), at least on select tunes like “Dancer”, with male ones so versatile they defy any one (or two, for that mater) classification. Their instrumentation boasts one on percussion and one on keytar. Heart Attack, their debut release on Paper Bag Records was released late last month. Read More »Woodhands [Feature Band]

Dell Dome by Fense

If you are a large corporation targeting the youth of today, it appears there are two places you want your messaging to be front and center. The first: anything dealing with Miley Cirus or Jonas Brothers. That’ll get you a massive audience, there’s no denying it. But, if you’re targeting less of a mainstream crowd, the place to be is summer music festivals. Dell is the latest to hop on the bandwagon, pumping up their Summer Rocks campaign at festivals across the country. Read More »Dell Dome Summer Rocks [MixTape]

Ham1 [Feature Band]

Ham1 by Ben McCormick

My God… just how long have I had The Captain’s Table by Ham1 (MySpace) in my promo pile!? (That question warrants the exclamation point due to the excessive time it has spent there.) Let’s see, the album hit in November of 2007. You’ll likely need to subtract a few months due to the standard promo time. And yeah, that means I’ve had it for damn close to a year. I gotta say, CD-R labels sure pull out some great moves. I’ve long been a fan of new up-and-comer Series II Records, a name you’ve likely seen several times over the past few months here on FensePost. But this one comes from the newly (and sadly) defunct Asaurus Records. Take a look at their artists and you may recognize a few names. I sure do! Let’s see: The Capstan Shafts, The Faintest Ideas, The Mathletes, Pants Yell!, Red Pony Clock, and, a recent name in my playlist, Patrick Porter. Read More »Patrick Porter [Feature Band]

In 2007, Ben Curtis left Secret Machines, but he had a plan. His plan was to focus on his new project with former On!Air!Library! twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza. That project is titled School Of Seven Bells (MySpace). While the band has toured with groups like Blond Redhead (you can hear the similarities, though they’re a bit of a stretch at times as School of Seven Bells is a bit more electronic), their sound is notably closer to M83.

Goldcure [Feature Band]

Goldcure

Goldcure (MySpace) has the sound of Brit Daniels’ Spoon, both in voice and in backing instrumentation. Thus it should be no surprise that the band hails from Spoon’s hometown of Austin, TX. However, Goldcure injects a bit more country into the veins of their songs, from the title track of their upcoming Portugese Prince to the ballad-esque closer “Beautiful Disaster”.
