Goldcure (MySpace) has the sound of Brit Danielsâ€™ Spoon, both in voice and in backing instrumentation. Thus it should be no surprise that the band hails from Spoonâ€™s hometown of Austin, TX. However, Goldcure injects a bit more country into the veins of their songs, from the title track of their upcoming Portugese Prince to the ballad-esque closer â€œBeautiful Disasterâ€.
While the Spoon influence is readily apparent, there is plenty here that Goldcure can call their own, namely in the country-base the guitar and drums lend to various songs throughout Portugese Prince. That album hits stores August 26 on Sorin Records.
The harmony vocals kicking off â€œToo Longâ€, the opening track on Portugese Prince, mixed with a consistent strum and some lightly distorted reverb in the lead guitar make for an effective and emotional song. It’s a pretty decent introduction to the band. Have at it…
