From Brooklyn comes Butchers & Bakers, a quartet that clashes 90s girl group rock vocals of artists like Sleater Kinney and Rainer Maria with the laid-back, modern electricity of current pseudo-electronic rock/pop groups. “Brunch”, the lead and title track on the band’s new single, features a punchy guitar riff, laid back vocals and a melodic, surreal keyboard. Grizzly Bear is one of those bands that continues to surprise. Look back at their early work, and there are some truly stunning tracks; it’s what propelled them into early indie fame. Enter 2012 and their track “Sleeping Ute” off Shields. The band hadn’t created something quite this catchy before, and paired with the other tracks on Shields led it and the accompanying album to be among the year’s best. Kelley Stoltz releases Double Exposure

I’m a bit sad to see Kelley Stoltz leave Sub Pop; I’ve come to love his releases on the beloved Seattle label. Stoltz returns this month with Double Exposure on Third Man Records, the label imprint of Jack White. The Migrant Returns with ‘Beads’

Denmark artist Bjarke Bendtsen, better known state-side as The Migrant, is back with his third album. Beads continues Bendtsen’s collective-style experimental/psychedelic folk-pop leanings. Loosely translated, GFRock calls the new album “A meditative journey in Nordic Americana.” Earlier this month, the band gave us a video created by a woman named Mary for album highlight “The Pony”. Phil Elverum’s penchant for the unconventional has always been a recognizable trait of his work. I would argue that all his work under the Mount Eerie moniker is unconventional; there are, however, times where it stands out even more. His latest release, a forthcoming one titled Pre-Human Ideas out on his P.W. Elverum and Sun imprint November 12, is one of those times.

The Men: Campfire Songs EP

Campfire Songs by The Men is among the most appropriate album titles of the year (perhaps being topped only by Ty Segall’s LP Sleeper). It was indeed recorded outside, under stars with a crackling fire keeping the clan warm. It found this band — often classified in a variety of genres from noise rock to post-punk — stripping away all electronics for something entirely acoustic.

Pablo Padovani, son of cult jazz musician Jean-Marc Padovani and guitarist for Melody’s Echo Chamber, goes solo with MoodoÃ¯d. Somewhat reminiscent of the erratic nature of GOAT (at least in “De Folie Pure”) and the modern glam Of Montreal has come to encompass, with MoodoÃ¯d Padovani creates a mash-up of world music and psychedelic pop.
