The Mare: I’m So Happy [Video]

mare

Buried deep in my inbox was this video for “I’m So Happy” by The Mare. It’s a super upbeat, wildly fun indie pop song from, yes, another great Swedish band. The video features plenty of dancing, a stuffed giraffe, and great colors. The song’s title is perfect; not only does the band continuously repeat the words I’m so happy, it’s also super infectious. Complacency or foul mood? This song is your antidote. Read More »The Mare: I’m So Happy [Video]

Blood Oranges: The French Word for Love [Video]

blood-oranges

Blood Oranges is an energetic pop band from London featuring plenty of synth keys and jangly guitars. “The French Word For Love” is my introduction to this band, and it’s probably yours as well. The song is the title track to their debut single, which drops next week via Things To Make And Do Records. For now, we just have this fun little video, which introduces us to the band piece by piece, angle by angle. They’ve been getting Los Campesinos references, but I think Blood Oranges has less of that punky edge. I hear it, yes, but these guys and gals are just as emotive without all the angst and with a little more heart. Read More »Blood Oranges: The French Word for Love [Video]

Maserati [Feature]

maserati

Odd that this, Pyramid Of The Sun, is my first experience of the epic Maserati. It’s not with ignorance, too; their name has been uttered in my direction from many an enthusiast. Thus I do not feel competent in doing an album review, as I have no basis of comparison – and that is precisely what a long-time fan would want. So a brief feature, then. Pyramid Of The Sun is a masterful blend of wild guitar riffs, borderline electronica, and the intoxicating hint of psychedelia. And “Oaxaca” is the perfect example of all three. Acid House Kings

Acid House Kings: Are We Lovers Or Are We Friends? [mp3]

Of Johan Angergård’s three bands, only Acid House Kings stays fixed within its prior works’ roots. This band has always created lovable pop music and that hasn’t changed one bit in their first single in five to six years, “Are We Lovers Or Are We Friends?” The track is off the bands LP Music Sounds Better With You.

What Is Zoophyte? (Ödland’s Latest Tease)

odland

Once again teasing us with creative bits of art is French band Ödland, this time with a series of photographs of the always stunning Alizée Bingöllü. With these photographs comes a rambling message clouded in mystery, reproduced in part here. Ödland has always blended their very unique style of underground French classical pop with the artistic, a feat they accomplish gracefully with these teasers. Read More »What Is Zoophyte?
