Dusted: Feature

Dusted

Dusted is the new project by Brian Borcherdt (Holy Fuck), taking his music creation in a totally different direction. “Property Lines” is the second track to be released from the band’s debut album, Total Dust, and it stands apart from other songs on the album in that it’s louder and more encompassing than most off the LP. Pure Bathing Culture: EP

Pure Bathing Culture

While I haven’t written about Portland’s Pure Bathing Culture directly, they’ve already become mainstays on both my regular playlist and on my KSVR / KSVU weekly radio show. The duo of Daniel Hindman and Sarah Versprille create quite a full pop sound for there being just two. Early on, I became a big fan of their track “Ivory Coast” off their self-titled, debut EP, out now on Father/Daughter Recordings. Read More »Pure Bathing Culture: EP

Kishi Bashi

Kishi Bashi: 151a

What to say about Kishi Bashi? He tours with Of Montreal and Regina Spektor. He’s a founding member of Jupiter One. A side project of his called Cop Gravy will release its debut EP later this year on Joyful Noise Recordings (the same label that put out this LP, 151a). So to call Kishi Bashi new to the music scene would be false. He is a well-versed, well-traveled, and in fact quite notable multi-instrumentalist.

This is not your standard indie rock group; their influences span wide and far, making Foxygen one of the more unique and interesting new artists to surface of late.

Ozarks: Pyramids Of Love (Video)

Ozarks

All my friends are in prison. All my friends are a prism. Pyramids have risen. Covered in the resin of love. So go the opening lines of “Pyramids of Love” by Ozarks. Sung by Robbie Augspurger, wearing a sweet moustache and a turtleneck, the video for “Pyramids of Love” conjures thoughts of 60s baroque pop mixed with modern influences such as Ryland Bouchard’s The Robot Ate Me. Grave Babies: Fuck Off (Video)

Grave Babies

“Fuck Off” is a somewhat departure from “Nightmare”, the first publicly available track off Grave Babies‘ debut Hardly Art EP, Gothdammit. Amidst a softly pleasant backdrop are slightly creepy, pseudo-surreal gothic images put forth by director Jordan Utley. The opening notes of the song are initially reminiscent of Bunkbed’s cover of Xiu Xiu’s “Fallen Angel II”, acting as the perfect opening tune for the new EP. After nearly two minutes, a beat kicks in, then guitars and finally vocals. This completes the cold wave circle. Read More »Grave Babies: Fuck Off (Video)
