Somewhere between Television Personalities and Fergus & Geronimo, but with an introspective self-deprecating edge is Australian songwriter Craig Dermody, who records mopey but joyful sounding indie pop tunes under the moniker Scott & Charlene’s Wedding. With a hint of jangle in the guitar and a vocal delivery that barely give Dermody a chance to breathe, “Footcray Station” is perfect for the frowny-faced, droopy-shouldered, long and unkempt haired slacker. Music videos can be total sensory overload. Not only do you get great audio from bands that have often spent insurmountable time mastering a song they have created, adding to them videos can open a similar avenue with interesting visual storylines and themes. Some have plots, some have twists, and some have neither; others are funny or thought-provoking; all within this list are great in their own right. I discovered Oakland band Trails And Ways back at the end of April, when I covered their song “Tereza”. Since then, the band has dominated my playlist, adding a tune a month. My buddy Justin initially introduced me to “Sri Sai Flora” by The Sufis, calling the band’s self-titled LP on Ample Play Records one of the F*ck Yeah albums of the year. It only takes a single listen to The Sufis to know Justin is spot on in that statement. Along the same lines, the band’s “Sri Sai Flora” is a true psychedelic pop masterpiece.
