Get Teased by Ödland

odland

Five teaser videos so far; Ödland just won’t quit. Their debut EP The Caterpillar blended experimental French classical music with pop, and their pending debut LP, Ottocento, promises more of the same. Ottocento is slated for a Spring 2009 2010 release and if it’s half as creative as these promotional videos, we’re all in for a sizable treat. Read More »Get Teased by Ödland

“Won’t Say Anything” by Hello Seahorse! [mp3]

hello-seahorse

Hello Seahorse! creates honest, lovable pop in the vein of Mates Of State. The trio from Mexico City is centered around light, clean keyboard riffs, soft bass lines and female-fronted vocals. The music is ingenuous and unassuming. There’s no typical pretensions here, simply pleasant pop songs. “Won’t Say Anything” will surprise you with its purity, and abash you for your lack innocence. Neon Indian: Psychic Chasms [Album Review]

neon_indian

Prior to the release of debut LP Psychic Chasms, Austin’s Neon Indian had already begun to garner a substantial quantity of hype from tastemakers across the globe. In first visiting Psychic Chasms, one is struck with the term ambiguous. Sure, the album and the band hint at a wider experimental electro-folk, folktronica, or whatever subgenre you wish to dub the latest slew of pleasant electronic artists that dip their toes into the arena of folk all the while foraying into eccentric bouts of experimentation. My Autumn Sons: Save Me [Video]

my_autumn_sons

Such a simple concept, this video for My Autumn Sons‘ “Save Me”. Filtered through some sort of pop art thermal thingy, or something along those lines, the video merely follows a few kids as they walk down the street, showing off for the camera and doing what little boys do. My Autumn Sons is my lastest find from Series II Records, who released their album Perfect earlier this year. Read More »My Autumn Sons: Save Me [Video]

Fredrik (band)

Fredrik: Vinterbarn [Video]

Listening to Fredrik’s dark pop, it should be easy to hear why I believe this is one of the most promising acts around. Off their forthcoming LP “Trilogi”, here’s their first video for a song called “Vinterbarn.”

Levi Fuller

Levi Fuller Rolls Out ‘Ball Of Wax 18’ This Wednesday at Sunset

The Seattle DIY king (Levi Fuller) returns with his next Ball Of Wax comp. This time, it’s themed. Each song is between one and two minutes in length, hence the album’s name, Ball Of Wax 18: One Minute Singles. You’ll see some FensePost local favorites in there, including Levi Fuller (Mr. Seattle DIY himself), Virgin Of The Birds (pictured below), Dandelion Gold, Webelos, Open Fire Choir, and Poland. To celebrate its launch, there’s gonna be a SHOW!

Chuck Morgan: This Spring Is [Video]

chuck_morgan

“This Spring Is” by Gothenburg’s Chuck Morgan is a simple acoustic song with hidden complexities. Morgan is good at creating plain pop melodies and weaving in various experimental pop elements behind the common singer/songwriter acoustic plus vocals make-up. Locked on a balcony, this video finds Morgan mulling over a favorite season. The cinematography is a play on focus and the purposeful instability in the camera merely heightens the video’s creativity. Read More »Chuck Morgan: This Spring Is [Video]

Best Albums of 2006

A Retrospective Top 33 and 1/3: Best Albums Of 2006

On June 6, 2006, FensePost went live. Since its inception, I’ve written more than 1,000 album reviews and countless features, track reviews, live reviews, and video reviews. My collection has grown exponentially. I have a room in my house devoted entirely to records. CDs go in the living room and I’m out of shelving space. To say FensePost has become a big part of my life would be an understatement. It’s as much a second job as it is a hobby.

Lymbyc Systym: Shutter Release [Album Review]

lymbyc_systym

Lymbyc System has always given the impression of being directly related to Talkdemonic. Like Kevin O’Connor’s group, this instrumental duo places great emphasis on a hefty drum beat. This beat is as much in the forefront as the music that accompanies it – not typically the case in music, as percussion is often utilized as a support to everything else. The band’s latest album, Shutter Release, finds the band expanding in all areas of sound, a progression not expected from a mere duo. Read More »Lymbyc Systym: Shutter Release [Album Review]
