The Babies was an indie rock band fronted by Kevin Morby and Cassie Ramone, releasing records and singles as a quartet between 2010 and 2012. “All Things Come to Pass” backed with “Caroline” is one of 2 singles The Babies released in 2010.
Both songs can be found on the band’s self titled debut LP from 2011. As far as I can tell, they are the same versions, so unless you like the novelty of having items like this or if you tend to be a completist, just pick up the debut album.
The 7-inch was released on Wild World Records, which doesn’t appear to have released much in their brief decade-long existence (2000-2010). However those releases do include three by Vivian Girls.
I wasn’t able to find much about the label as searching for Wild World Records brings up…well…let’s just it’s not related to indie music.
All Things Come to Pass Review
What you’ll find here is par for the course when it comes to The Babies. It’s stripped own, lo-fi garage rock with elements of folk and punk included.
“All Things Come to Pass” really isn’t my favorite and almost has a holiday-ish feel to it. I’ve never been one to enjoy Christmas music, so the jingle it has to it is somewhat of a turnoff. Take a listen below, and let me know in the comments if you get the same vibe:
That said, “Caroline” is by far the standout on this single, despite the fact that there are no vocals for the first two minutes of a 2:45 song. It’s softer, more melodic, and just overall good. Take a listen:
No surprise, but “Caroline” is the more popular track on streaming platforms like Spotify with over half a million plays as of May 2023 whereas “All Things Come to Pass” has a little over 300k.
More From Members of The Babies
The Babies stopped making new music a decade ago, but members Kevin Morby and Cassie Ramone remain active in the indie music scene. Morby has a successful solo career, and Cassie’s old band Vivian Girls went through a resurrection itself not long ago. Here are a few items from The Babies, Morby, and Vivian Girls that you might want to add to your collection:
