Last week I returned to the present with only a few throwbacks to the 90s toward the end of the show. The split digital/vinyl show featured new tracks from Sleeping Bag, The Babies, Sweater Girls, Gospel Claws, Suturee and Thunder Power. We also featured a few favorites since the year 2000 with tracks by The Anniversary, Tvärvägen and The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir.

A Retrospective Top 33 and 1/3: Best Albums of 2008

When I compiled my original Best Of 2008 list last December, it was a snow day. The sky dropped about a foot, maybe a foot and a half of fluffy white stuff and we lowly sub-compact drivers could go nowhere. Between ranking albums and locating album art, I took a stroll around town with my camera. The above image comes from that trek. Overall, I was pretty happy with last year’s list but, in revisiting all the albums from 2008, I now see quite a few that I left out.

Thunder Power: And Everything After [Album Review]

Thunder Power’s EP Love Yourself… was filled with infective pop songs that earned it consistency on my 2008 playlist. And Everything After, to the contrary, features stripped-down pop. It’s less upbeat, has less volume, but luckily maintains the greatness of Thunder Power’s other work. “Ship In A Bottle” finds the two primary vocalist, both of opposing sexes, harmonizing beautifully. “Sleep, Not Violence” begins slowly but also features a selection of harmony vocals.
