Ivy League [Feature Band]

This Is Ivy League

I discovered Ivy League, as did many outside the New York region, when IndiePages featured them in their Demo of the Week section. And as the weeks passed, I listened to the songs provided for download and I longed to hear more. Shortly after the IndiePages feature, they signed to TwentySeven Records and, other than numerous shows in the New York area, little has been heard since.

Eula [Feature Band]

Eula

Combining the quirky, awkward-but-sexy nature of CSS with a more defined loud-vs-soft side, Eula (MySpace) is a fun new wave group from New Haven. Their music is packed with the loud, pointed guitar riffs and rapid basslines that would make Northwest pseudo punk proud; think a blown out of proportion and hyped-up Kill Rock Stars release. Casiotone For The Painfully Alone: Old Panda Days [pReview]

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone

Written by Fense

I’ve set strict rules for the pReview section; yet, here on the third pReview, I’ve already broken the cardinal one – listening to a single song from an album and writing about it. I cheated: I listened to Advance Base Battery Life, the upcoming release by Casiotone For The Painfully Alone (MySpace), in its entirety. Peter Bjorn And John: Nothing To Worry About [pReview]

Peter Bjorn And John

Written by Fense

Not too long ago, I wrote a review about a band called Cleeman and, being well in advance of the album release, I tossed in a “p” and titled it a “pReview” – it was a name well received, so well in fact that the release show for said album was dubbed the pReview show. I will now take it one step further. From this day on, pReviews will be included in the Feature Band section and will be focused on a new track from an upcoming album… Read More »Peter Bjorn And John: Nothing To Worry About [pReview]

The Cumulus Music Festival [In A List]

Cumulus Music Festival

Written by Fense

My love, how I miss thee. Were I capable of poetry, words would stream onto the page like none other. They would cover it front to back, emphasizing how I hate being away from your side each and every week, away from your scent and away from you arms. It is a curse. A travesty! And I am stricken. Love will make you do crazy things, like miss the Cumulus Music Festival, which debuts on the streets of Seattle tomorrow and features Beast, Please Be Still (MySpace), among other phenomenal artists. Maddy Wyatt [Feature Band]

Maddy Wyatt

Written by Ron Trembath

As a grand scheme of change and hope is brought upon us today, and an intense feeling of revolution is impossible to resist. Our country’s 44th president has taken office, and we will be forever changed in the most positive of ways. And one songstress who really deserves to celebrate, is the Brooklyn based folk queen Maddy Wyatt (MySpace). When President Obama announced his candidacy in 2006, Wyatt wrote, in the same year, “Man For Me (Ode to Barack)”, and her endless support and motivation obviously proved most rewarding. Wild Light [Feature Band]

Wild Light

Written by Fense

I cannot get “New Hampshire” by Wild Light out of my head. Now, this isn’t one of those pestering annoyances that has you doing everything in your power to replace it with something else. No, this is a good thing; the song is catchy and filled with emotive pop that’s easy to get into and dig wholeheartedly. Read More »Wild Light [Feature Band]

Lostine [Feature]

James Sasser's Lostine

I met a shorter-haired James Sasser (second from the right) at a friend’s party in Portland a few years back. After imbibing a bit, a group of us went to a small rock-a-billy bar and watched him play. I picked up a copy of his album, Southside of Sorrow, that evening. It was an excellent mix of folk and country. Now Sasser fronts a new group – one not named after him. That group is Lostine. Read More »Lostine [Feature]
