Alright, latest obsession: Jib Kidder. It’s a no-brainer, hearing that the band’s new release will be split between Burger Records and Gnar Tapes and Shit was no surprise. Jib Kidder fits right in on both accounts. Par the course, Jib Kidder’s video for “New Crimes”, the lead single off new LP IV, is a mish-mash of assorted clips from downloaded YouTube videos.
Moving at a rapid pace, filtering an array of colors, and maintaining consistency through inconsistency, “New Crimes” as a video is quite brilliant. That’s no surprise either, as it’s what Jib Kidder does.
The song, on the other hand, flows meticulously. It too is scatterbrained, though, throwing together such a variety of influences — garage rock, psych-rock, a hint of southern rock — that it’s ultimately totally original.
