I like this. The press release describes Bass Drum Of Death, a wildly noisy garage rock duo out of Mississippi, as the resulting sound if the Stooges ate a bunch of ecstasy and tried to write girl-group songs. It’s fitting; Bass Drum Of Death’s songs are highly contagious. They’re insanely good, wickedly fun, and 100 percent bad ass.
Backed by immense fuzz and raucous drums, and fronted with shouted, 50s/60s-pop-style vocals, Bass Drum Of Death’s “Heart Attack Kid” has the sound of recent favorites like Harlem and Jeff The Brotherhood. Then there’s “He’s So Fine”, a song entirely shocking in how much it sounds like a 50s girl group do-wop song.
The former can be found on their new record, GB City, out in late February on Inflated Records. “He’s So Fine” is listed as a bonus track. You’ll definitely want to hear both!
