Mat Brooke has long been a favorite musician of mine, back from the days of Carissa’s Wierd. From there he partnered with fellow Wierder Ben Bridwell in Band Of Horses, but his participation with the Horses was short lived. He dropped out of the band to focus on Grand Archives (MySpace) as well as his Seattle bar, Redwood. So the latest is that Grand Archives are prepping to give us the follow-up to their 2008 self-titled debut.
“Silver Among The Gold” comes from that album, Keep In Mind Frankenstein, and it’s filled with plenty of multi-harmonies and beloved pop hooks as were heard on Grand Archives. It’s good to hear that “Silver Among The Gold” matches the best tracks off Grand Archives’ debut stride-for-stride. Thus it should be no surprise that Keep In Mind Frankenstein is one of my most anticipated albums of 2009.
“Silver Among The Gold” is a sneak preview of the latest from Grand Archives and it comes to us via a Sub Pop sub-page portal designed to look like a 90s porn site. It is, in fact, the new Sub Pop 2009 Compilation and it features fourteen songs by artists that have released or will soon release an album through Sub Pop this year.
