Earlier this week I mentioned Foals’ iTunes exclusive. Well, they’re not the only Sub Pop artist rocking the exclusives with iTunes these days–add The Gutter Twins to the shortlist. Yep, earlier this month, Greg Dulli (The Afghan Whigs) and Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees), the duo that make up The Gutter Twins, released Adorata exclusively on iTunes.
The EP is an interesting mix of material, including two originals (“Spanish Doors” and “We Have Met Before”) and several covers from artists as diverse as Primal Scream, Scott Walker, and Jose Gonzalez. While I haven’t heard any of these yet, I have heard something else by The Gutter Twins.
If you’re unfamiliar with this band, the Sub Pop all-star duo launched with Saturnalia earlier this year. The album is packed with goodies–my favorites are “The Stations”, “The Body” and “I Was In Love With You”. And if you are at all skeptical about the clash of Screaming Trees and The Afghan Whigs, let me clear one thing up: the combo of Dulli and Lanegan is pure perfection, especially when it comes to their dual vocals.
You can hear it in “Idle Hands”, another phenom from Saturnalia and the track I’ve included below for your listening pleasure. Saturnalia is available now from Sub Pop, and Adorata from the iTunes online store.
