Here’s something we haven’t had in a while: something new from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. In fact, just the other day I was looking through my CDs and came across their debut, self-titled LP, and wondered if the band was still around. “Hysterical” is the first single and title track off the band’s new LP. Not all too surprising, I missed the album’s release last September.
Kris Moyes directs the video, which is a first for the band and mixes media uniquely and quite well.
Within “Hysterical” you hear some of the efficacy of the band’s debut, yet more produced and refined. Regarding the former, I rejoiced. Regarding the latter, I hesitated; but after a full listen of the song hesitation was for naut. “Hysterical” is, well, a great song!
Also of note: Alec Ounsworth doesn’t seem to have that emotive, raspy wail from the previous releases with could go either way on other songs but easily works to CYHSY’s advantage here. Further, there’s a lot of synth here, which lends well to “Hysterical”.
