There aren’t many things as enticing as dueling female folk vocals. It’s a form of expression that invokes a sort of spirit that lies in the lowest depths of the canals of history. Storytelling has always been an important aspect of our lives, whether we choose to define it as so simply or not. And a group like Peggy Sue seem to think that storytelling through folk music is the premiere opportunity to let the soul release, as well as dig deep into our own psyche to understand what it means to have lived. Says Jukebox The Ghost‘s songwriter Ben Thornewill about “Schizophrenia”, Years ago I learned that often schizophrenics become schizophrenics in their early twenties after a traumatic experience. So the song is from the point of a schizophrenic who still has the wherewithal to talk coherently about his illness.

Bell X1

Preconceptions are often misleading. I always pictured Ireland’s Bell X1 (MySpace) as having a substantial electronic sound, one strife with hype and thus with the capacity for an inevitable backlash from the masses. But, my introduction to their upcoming LP Blue Lights On The Runway demonstrates just how wrong my expectations were.
