My Bloody Valentine is a shoegaze band out of Dublin, Ireland that originally formed in 1983. They are often credited not just as the pioneers of the shoegaze movement in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but their 1991 LP Loveless often tops the list of best shoegaze albums of all time.
The band largely failed to gain traction until they signed to Creation Records in 1988. On Creation, My Bloody Valentine released several EPs and two LPs, Isn’t Anything (1988) and Loveless (1991).
They signed to Island Records in 1992.
Despite recording several albums worth of material, they did not release another record, and ultimately dissolved as a band in the mid to late 90s. However, they reunited in 2007 and after delays released m b v in 2013.
The band signed to Domino Records in 2021, and their catalog was added to several streaming platforms. Domino reissued the band’s catalog. Word on the street is that new material is in the works…
While depicted in title case here, My Bloody Valentine is often stylized in all lowercase.

A few months back, I shared my top 20 albums turning 20 years old in 2023. I loved compiling that list, and figured it would be great to put one together for the albums turning 10 this year as well. In this post, I’m scouring my collection for albums released 10 years ago, and I’m pulling out the top 10 albums turning 10 in 2023 — or, in other words, the top 10 albums of 2013.
Creation Records was founded in 1983 by Alan McGee, Dick Green, and Joe Foster. Previously known as Creation Artifacts, the label would go on to be hugely influential in the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing a slew of albums that would come to dominate and define the shoegaze sub-genre.
If you’re checking out this post, at the very least you enjoy Siamese Dream, or curiosity has piqued your interest. This is a relatively new series of articles and videos in which I share albums to check out if you like a particular release I have in my collection. The ones I recommend, similarly, are pulled from my collection. Today I’m looking at the 1993 LP Siamese Dream by alt-rock band The Smashing Pumpkins.
