Top 10 Albums of 2013

Top 10 Albums Turning 10 in 2023

A few months back, I shared my top 20 albums turning 20 years old in 2023. I loved compiling that list, and figured it would be great to put one together for the albums turning 10 this year as well. In this post, I’m scouring my collection for albums released 10 years ago, and I’m pulling out the top 10 albums turning 10 in 2023 — or, in other words, the top 10 albums of 2013.

Crystal Stilts: Future Folklore

Crystal Stilts

Crystal Stilts debut LP, Alight of Night, was released on Slumberland back in 2008. They followed it in 2011 with In Love with Oblivion. In between and since, they have released several singles and an EP, 2011’s stellar Radiant Door. But the band went silent after the release of Radiant Door, and we now know why. They will release their third proper LP, Nature Noir, next month. Read More »Crystal Stilts: Future Folklore

Vinyl only night on KSVR

Vinyl Only Night on KSVR

As you may already know, but I’ll state it nonetheless for those who do not, I have a weekly radio show on KSVR Mount Vernon, KSVU Hamilton and KSJU Friday Harbor. You can tune in via the respective dial pinpoints if you live within those townships, or you can stream from KSVR.org. Fense’s Radio Show: October 5, 2012

With as much psychedelic pop and rock that I’ve been listening to lately, it only made sense to put together a full show featuring the sub-genres. Of course, I also threw in some beloved garage rock to keep things sane. For the first time in ages, I took the KSVR and KSVU airwaves and played several older tunes (older meaning 2011 and before), with bands like Wooden Shjips and The Mantles and Comets on Fire. New releases got their fair share of air play as well: recent songs from The Fresh & Onlys, Two Gallants, Sunglasses and METZ also made the cut. Check out the playlist below and sample the songs in blue.

Fense’s Radio Show: March 2, 2012

We’ve been doing up the floors in our house, stripping out the carpet, repainting the walls, painting the trim and doors, and laying down a rich brown woven bamboo (hence the lateness of this post and the general lack of posts this week). It’s a project that should add equity to our house and, one day, our pockets. I threw this playlist together Friday morning and set to work stripping carpet from the hallway while it played in the background. Read More »Fense’s Radio Show: March 2, 2012

Crystal Stilts: Love Is A Wave [pReview]

Crystal Stilts

I’ll admit, Crystal Stilts self-titled EP and debut full-length Alight Of Night passed me by a bit. Don’t get me wrong – I love the sound. It just failed to live up to the garage-pop that was Up Against The Legends by The Legends and was soon to be The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. But that has all changed. Enter “Love Is A Wave”. Read More »Crystal Stilts: Love Is A Wave [pReview]
