Camera Obscura

Camera Obscura

Camera Obscura formed in 1996 in Scotland, fronted by Tracyanne Campbell. The indie pop band released 5 LPs between 2001 and 2013, but went on hiatus in 2015 after the passing of keyboardist Carey Lander from a form of bone cancer.

After the hiatus began, Tracyanne Campbell released a solo LP with Daniel Coughlan, Tracyanne & Danny.

While the band came back together in 2018, as of mid 2023 they have not released new music. Camera Obscura has teased new music, as well as a possible reissue of their long out-of-print and highly sought-after debut LP Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi.

In 2022, the band released Making Money (4AD B-Sides & Rarities).

Below, you’ll find a complete collection of album reviews, song reviews, features, music videos, lists, and more covered on FensePost that include Camera Obscura.

FensePost Top 50: The Best Albums of 2009

2009 is a tough year to judge. I’ve checked out more albums this year than any year in the past. Well over 1,000. And there have been quite a few great ones as well. When this list began, it had 110 albums. I abandoned my top 33 and 1/3 for 45, and then said “screw it” and upped the number to an even 50. These are the top notch albums of the year, all worthy of praise.

A Retrospective Top 33 and 1/3: Best Albums Of 2006

On June 6, 2006, FensePost went live. Since its inception, I’ve written more than 1,000 album reviews and countless features, track reviews, live reviews, and video reviews. My collection has grown exponentially. I have a room in my house devoted entirely to records. CDs go in the living room and I’m out of shelving space. To say FensePost has become a big part of my life would be an understatement. It’s as much a second job as it is a hobby.

A Retrospective Top 15: Best Albums Of 2001

The second installment of A Retrospective, in which I recap my favorite albums released from 2000 to 2008, this time: 2001. Wrought with turmoil and watching a life fall apart as so many others were having similar experiences but in a different manner; that was 2001 for you. The year I turned 21. A year that lives in infamy. Young or old, we all seemed to grow up that year. Music, too seemed to progress in ways unthought, even before that fateful day.

Camera Obscura: The Sweetest Thing [Video]

It is no secret that I have what some would clinically deem an unhealthy fascination with that we call the moustache. I’ve sported one for several years now; it’s red. Well the latest video from Camera Obscura finds the band’s mastermind, Traceyanne Campbell, doing the same. Yeah, it’s fake (of course), but that doesn’t matter. Like all Camera Obscura videos, this one features a unique little storyline both fun and creative.
