Blitzen Trapper: Love The Way You Walk Away (Video)

Blitzen Trapper 8 (2011)

Blitzen Trapper are arguably one of the hardest working (and most estranged in character) bands out today. With a relentless tour schedule that makes you wonder if Eric Earley and crew actually have homes to go back to, and what seems to be an “album a year” strategy going for them, they have definitely earned this title. But, the best is yet to come. Everyone’s favorite indie-folk group is due to release their fourth album, third from Sub Pop Records, very soon! And if “Love The Way You Walk Away” and it’s corresponding video are as impeccably brilliant and personable as the rest of the album, we are shaping up to hear what will be the definitive Blitzen Trapper album. These suave folk-smith warriors always seem to outshine themselves year in and year out. Read More »Blitzen Trapper: Love The Way You Walk Away (Video)

Talkdemonic: Revival MP3

talkdemonic

Foosball tournament enthusiast Kevin O’Connor is back under the guise of Talkdemonic with his music-making cohort Lisa Molinaro. The duo has a new album in the mix, and thus a new song for public consumption. That song is “Revival” and it continues Talkdemonic’s steadfast style of somewhat always eclectic, ever loud and clever percussion-meets-strings instrumental genius. The song begins with a light guitar riff before O’Connor opens up on his drum kit and Molinaro adds her touch with eccentric electric strings. Read More »Talkdemonic: Revival MP3

Sóley: I’ll Drown MP3

soley

Sóley, a member of the Icelandic troupe Seabear, is prepared to drop her sophomore release, We Sink, October 4 on Morr Music. A keyboardist and backup vocalist by trade, first thoughts on her solo project is that she was made for the spotlight. “I’ll Drown” is the first track we’ve heard from the forthcoming LP and it joins the experimental pop sounds of Seabear and Sin Fang with the unique, quite spirited vocals of Sóley Stefánsdóttir. Bill Callahan: Apocalypse (Album Review)

bill-callahan

Bill Callahan’s latest LP, Apocalypse, is a difficult one to grasp. Such is the nature of Bill Callahan, whose music has always (even under Smog) been a bit on the fringe. Rarely do we pull from other reviews, but it must be noted that Pitchfork pointed out the contradictory nature of Callahan’s music — and it’s true. Apocalypse is delicate, but it’s rough around the edges. It’s sweet but brutal. A throwback to the old style of folk, almost Americana, but with a modern experimental folk twist. Introspective but sociological. Minimal but plush with detail. Calming but alarming. Read More »Bill Callahan: Apocalypse (Album Review)

Treefight For Sunlight: Time Stretcher (Video)

treefight-for-sunlight

Treefight For Sunlight is a band out of Denmark whose pop sensibilities fit what we’ve heard from that country in the past few years by artists like Mew, The Figurines and Oh No Ono. But like these bands, the sound Treefight For Sunlight creates has its own mold. It’s epic, it’s huge, and it’s original. The band’s new stop-motion video for “Time Stretcher” is just as great as the music it accompanies. Read More »Treefight For Sunlight: Time Stretcher (Video)

Keep Shelly In Athens: Running Out Of You MP3

keep-shelly-in-athens

Mysterious, ethereal and eerie, Keep Shelly In Athens create an all-encompassing sound in the whispery tune “Running Out Of You”. Filled with enormous dreamy synths, the song is dream pop for nearly two thirds of its four and a half minutes. The final third adds a heavier beat, turntable scratching, and an 80s hip hop sample in which a guy says Break It Down. Read More »Keep Shelly In Athens: Running Out Of You MP3
