Dangerous Cans: Feature

Dangerous Cans

Let me introduce you to Dangerous Cans, the new project of Brooklyn electro-pop artist Brian Time. He notes that others have commented that his new singles, including “Feel Something” and “Pretty Trash”, have remnants of what makes Washed Out great. Yeah, I can hear it, but Time does a good job distancing himself from sounding too-much like Ernest Greene and creating his own sound. Read More »Dangerous Cans: Feature

The Ocean Floor: My Shelf (Video)

The Ocean Floor (band)

Eccentric folk-pop comes in many forms. After all, you couldn’t label it “eccentric” if all sounded alike. The Ocean Floor is suited toward the term thanks to orchestration that occasionally hints of the avante garde styling of Nat Baldwin, harmony vocals that could be straight from Ah Holly Fam’ly (also from Portland), and percussion that borders both lightly twee and hypnotically heavy. This Just In: New LPs from HHBTM Records

HHBTM New Releases

I got a package the other week from HHBTM full of new releases from the Athens, GA-based label. Mike at the label was kind enough to pass along the latest albums he’s releasing. Fense’s Radio Show: November 23, 2012

James John Cafe

Faunts: Left Here Alone (Album Review)

Faunts

Dreamy and surreal, Faunts new EP Leave Here Alone has echoing guitars and a wispy airiness to the vocals. The songs have a darkness to them, an ethereal, hypnotic haze like the reflection of sound in a foggy canyon during the wee hours of the morning. You don’t know where it’s coming from, and it’s frightening. But at the same time, it doesn’t seem real so it’s, in a way, OK. Read More »Faunts: Left Here Alone (Album Review)

Lost Animal: Say No To Thugs (Video)

Lost Animal

There have been a lot of videos about death and murder this year. In “A Dark God Heart” by Sleep Party People, a little girl finds a body beneath the water in a bathtub. “A Game” by Ski Lodge has an American Psycho edge to it. A serial killer takes out Liars in “No. 1 Against The Rush”. There are more (these are the ones that are top of mind) and now there’s “Say No To Thugs” by Australia’s Lost Animal.
