Anomie Belle: Sleeping Patterns [Album Review]

Anomie Belle

The taunting yet soulful words of Toby Campbell, a.k.a. Anomie Belle, are a true symbol of constructive rhythm and melancholy blues. Her album Sleeping Patterns is 11 songs that are nothing short of keyboard-infused goodness. The entirety of this album will run through your heart like a 2 a.m. subway ride through an empty of city of dust and desire. Read More »Anomie Belle: Sleeping Patterns [Album Review]

Little Dragon: Feather [Track Review]

Little Dragon

Sweden’s Little Dragon creates dark, mystical music undoubtedly influenced by 80s synth pop, yet swirling with a futuristic edge. It’s a sound familiar to a select elite in Sweden; artists like Le Sport and Gentle Touch. “Feather” is inundated with heavy synth lines beyond atmospheric, and lovely female-fronted vocals by leading lady Yukimi Nagano. Breanna Paletta [Feature Artist]

Breanna Paletta

There can be no doubt that Breanna Paletta can sing your tattered Fedora off your straggly, tortured hair. Her soothing vocals can provide the background to your most comfortable moment in your favorite Starbucks. Portland Oregon may be a haven for fugitives and refugees (thanks Chuck!). But, occasionally you may find a great indie inspired songbird standing on the shoulder of the ultra hip westbound and scary elite. Read More »Breanna Paletta [Feature Artist]

Fense Turns 29

Cake: Fense Turns 29

OK, I know in a themed blog like this, only the narcissist would post something off topic, but I can’t help it; it’s a lazy week and I don’t feel like working too hard so I’m taking the day off. Why? Here it is: today is my birthday. I turn 29. One more year until 30 and I still don’t have to shave on a daily basis. Read More »Fense Turns 29

28 Degrees Taurus: How Do You Like Your Love [Album Review]

28 Degrees Taurus

Despite the Shaun Cassidy sounding album title, 28 Degrees Taurus have developed a beautifully disturbing gem of a second album with How Do You Like Your Love? This is Bill Burroughs’ life woven into an east coast inspired ambient frenzy. It is a dozen bennies swallowed with strong black coffee after thirty six restless hours. It’s a bit crazy, yet so controlled that all ingenuity is recognizable and brewed to a perfect infection. Read More »28 Degrees Taurus: How Do You Like Your Love [Album Review]

Nudge: As Good As Gone [Album Review]

Nudge

Ambient soul is how Nudge describes their music on MySpace; an odd combination initially difficult to comprehend. But add two additional descriptors, experimental and shoegaze, and one can begin to piece together the eccentric music Nudge makes. Their latest, As Good As Gone, capitalizes on all four defining terms in songs like the epically smooth “Two Hands” and the trippy “Burns Blue”. Read More »Nudge: As Good As Gone [Album Review]

Experimental Dental School: Royal Fantasy Snow [Video]

Experimental Dental School | XDS

As a marketing professional, I am entirely aware that familiarity rarely leads to loyalty. Something else must occur to take it to that next step, but awareness is a key to getting there. I’ve known of Experimental Dental School since their 2½ Creatures release in 2006, but only now am becoming a true fan thanks to this video for “Royal Fantasy Snow” off their new release, Forest Field. Circulatory System: Overjoyed [Track Review]

Circulatory System

I don’t know what I was expecting with Circulatory System, but one thing is for sure: it wasn’t this. “Overjoyed” has massive backing noise, a dark mix of romantic cello lines with trip-hop-ish beats. Such instrumentation would possibly lead one to think of intense vocals or even hip hop rhymes. But you get neither — instead, the listener is treated to wonderful little folk-pop vocals. Altogether, the result is fascinating and truly one-of-a-kind. Read More »Circulatory System: Overjoyed [Track Review]
