The Sheepdogs: I Don’t Know [Video]

sheepdogs

The Sheepdogs take classic rock down a bluesy, southern country road in their song “I Don’t Know”, and they do it in a classic Mopar with classic film. The video covers two young boys on a joyride. Hailing from Saskatoon in the province of Saskatchewan, one would think the band would be more suited for the flatlands of middle America, or the humid swamplands of the true south. But where small towns reside, so does that classic sound, be it Washington, Canada, or even a small town in eastern California. With plenty of twangy guitars and good-time vocals, “I Don’t Know” is off The Sheepdogs’ new album Learn & Burn. Read More »The Sheepdogs: I Don’t Know [Video]

Moondoggies: It’s A Shame, It’s A Pity [mp3 Review]

moondoggies

Oh the classic sound of Seattle’s Moondoggies. Hints of Neil Young shine through in their new track “It’s A Shame, It’s A Pity”. Their style of rustic folk rock has always flirted with this mold, but never has it been so vibrant of that 70s era, so reminiscent of their brethren from another life. “It’s A Shame, It’s A Pity” is upbeat and mature, ripe with the feel-good elements of pop and the disenchantment with a bad situation as the band repeats It’s a shame and Just a lie over and over. This is easily the best thing I’ve heard from these guys yet, and that’s an impressive feat. Read More »Moondoggies: It’s A Shame, It’s A Pity [mp3 Review]

Chris Staples (Discover America)

Discover America: Future Paths [Album Review]

There are many folks like Chris Staples floating around any city of your choosing. But, it is only fair to note that it is their individualistic creativity that makes them…well, the same. When one man decides he wants to control his own destiny as a musician, he only needs to enlist a short hand of helpful players (probably just like him, but not at all) and create a very clever moniker. Do this and what do you get? Well, that would be the extremely enthralling work of Discover America, and the corresponding album Future Paths.

Hosannas [Feature]

hosannas-01

Portland’s Hosannas are many things. They’re the two person offspring of the former local favorite band Church. They’re a (now) duo with a broadening array of styles that move way beyond basic experimental rock. They’re a band that pushes the barriers between indie rock and alternative hip hop further and further apart with each prolific beat they create. But, despite all these qualities, they’re a band that is certainly one thing – magnificent! Read More »Hosannas [Feature]

Finn Riggins: Live at The Empyrean [09.04.2010]

finn-riggans-01

The night air is getting chillier here in downtown Spokane. Summer is officially winding down. School started this week, but every hip cat from Lewis & Clark down to Shadle Park High seemed to be at The Empyrean this night. It was obvious they were here mainly in support of a few of their friends, known as Sassmatrons, coming on stage who, despite their youth, showed an immense amount of energy and potential and a very broad range of talent. Despite having a less-than seasoned approach at stage presence, their fellow All-Agers seemed very impressed over all. Read More »Finn Riggins: Live at The Empyrean [09.04.2010]

Golden Ages: Everything Will Be Alright [Video]

golden-ages

Everything that I have seen and heard from Philadelphia group Golden Ages has been very cutting edge. This band has influences, yes, but they pick apart the good pieces and expand on them for a sound both entrancing and captivating. There is something entirely dream-like about everything this band touches, yet it is vivid and clear. This trait is blatant in their video for “Everything Will Be Alright”; traffic signs and light posts split apart and drift away. In the beginning, a bizarre triangle appears, like a portal into a parallel universe. There are peaceful moments, risque moments, and moments that are downright terrifying. “Everything Will Be Alright” demonstrates that the mind can be a very elusive, deceitful, nightmarish thing. Dead Confederate: Run From The Gun [Video]

dead-confederate

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to me, I love that ancient video footage. Dead Confederate would agree; their new video for “Run From The Gun” is filled with old-time footage of wars and fights and explosions, manipulated with various effects and pieced together to fit the song’s calming, destructive power. The song departs from the band’s heavier rock sound, full of towering guitars and dreamy vocals. “Run From The Gun”, instead, is light with a hint of grit, lo-fi acoustic, and a playful beat. The two sounds would seem to contradict, but Dead Confederate plays them well on their sophomore release Sugar. Read More »Dead Confederate: Run From The Gun [Video]

The Goodnight Loving: The Goodnight Loving Supper Club [Album Review]

goodnight-loving

With the twang of the country and the grit of the garage, The Goodnight Loving bounces their way along with a new record dubbed The Goodnight Loving Supper Club. If that sounds delicious, I’ll attest to the fact that it is. The country sensibilities bode well for The Goodnight Loving, making their style of garage rock unique and fresh in a genre packed not only with greats, but with consistency that spans bands. It makes their debut album a bit more original, a bit friendlier to some of the classics, and a hell of a lot of fun. Read More »The Goodnight Loving: The Goodnight Loving Supper Club [Album Review]

Hotpants Romance: E-Mails [Video]

hotpants-romance

Oh, Hotpants Romance. So delightfully off key, and just so damn cute. Yes, the chaos driven trio of girls from across the pond are back with their oh so eccentric style of garage punk. Knowing how to make simple songs that make you laugh, love, and roll through a series of good time emotions in less than three minutes, you can’t help but love these girls for their immense spirit and happy go lucky attitudes.
