I quite enjoyed Easter Island‘s previous release, Better Things, but it didn’t stun me. What I mean by that is that while it was by all means very good, it wasn’t as gripping as one would hope. Well the band is back with Frightened, a new LP, and it doesn’t suffer the same fate. Both are solid works, but Frightened has staying power. And it’s tracks like “Hash” that give it that. Easter Island: Better Things [Album Review]

Easter Island is brothers Ethan and Asher Payne, who, along with drummer John Cable and bassist Andrew Terrell, create smooth, dreamy progressive pop in the vein of Stars or even Wye Oak. Better Things is filled with surreal pop songs, opening with the near shoegaze “Proud”. While the EP doesn’t embark completely into that space, it does flirt with it frequently.
