Apollo Heights [Feature Band]

Apollo Heights

Music festivals, other than catching hot shows and partying it up with crazies from across the nation, are all about networking with industry people and discovering new artists. I had just handed out about 200 bars of Ice Cream at The Village Underground last Wednesday. Matt, also known as Ice Cream Man, hopped into his Yaris and drove down the street after thanking me for some needed assistance. I made my way downstairs for the SPECTRE + Wii + Rockstar Games party, where I met some of the folks from Apollo Heights.

We chatted briefly about the state of things—music, Seattle, CMJ—before discussing the band itself. They mentioned opening for TV On The Radio. They mentioned a possibility of hitting Seattle again sometime soon. And we talked briefly about KEXP before I headed to the KEXP Listener Party at Hi Fi, where we met up again. (I also chatted it up with John Richards, our wonderful KEXP celeb, and we reminisced on how his former boss is my current boss.)

That Apollo Heights mentioned TV On The Radio is no surprise; the two bands have somewhat similar appearances. They’ve got this retro look and feel that it is super hip and quite cool. The music they make also goes well together, so it’s no wonder Apollo Heights opened for them a few times. Hefty indie, lightly soul-ish, Apollo Heights’ infectious rock will definitely help you get your groove on. And you, reader, can take that any way you want.
