Fleet Foxes: He Doesn’t Know Why [Video]

Fleet Foxes by David Belisle

Written by Fense

Oh I like this video. It’s a bit of a departure from Fleet Foxes’ first video, “White Winter Hymnal”, but it’s just as good. The video displays perfectly the group’s ability to construct multiple-part vocal harmonies, and emphasizes the band’s folk-rock sensibilities. If you’re new to Fleet Foxes, you’re in for a treat; if you’re an old hand at their music, you pretty much know what to expect. Either way, the video is worth it.

It is no surprise that the setting represents a manger. When Robyn Pecknold appears on video, he’s looking up as he sings—his persona is that of a modern-day Jesus Christ and his ability to move the common man through the power of song, I would argue, is just as enlightening. Also starring in the video are about a dozen goats that move around the band as they perform “He Doesn’t Know Why”.

Both “He Doesn’t Know Why” and “White Winter Hymnal” can be found on Fleet Foxes’ self-titled debut, out now on Sub Pop. The album is shaping up to be one of the top twenty of 2008—one of a few from the Sub Pop folks.
