Two years ago I met my girlfriend (her name is Andi, too) at the Capitol Hill Block Party, one of Seattle’s many kick-ass local summer festivals. Last year I went again, and it was packed. This year, as much as I hate to say it, I most likely will not go unless I score some press tickets or something awesome along those lines in the next week.
It saddens me because Pela will be there, playing tracks off their debut full-length record, Anytown Graffiti.

The album is filled with what may soon become Pela’s signature style of dreamy yet power-driven rock. Songs like opening track “Waiting On The Stairs”, with its competitive intro snare and space-y guitar riff, are dreamy despite more rock-centric vocals. Anytown Graffiti is packed with songs like this, songs that will ring across Pine in one week (July 25). Pela’s performance will precede an evening of greatness, followed by none other than The Thermals, The Gossip, and Sonic Youth!
