For my first show back from vacation, I decided to lay off the vinyl. After all, I received a few packages of records in the mail and that means another vinyl-only show should be coming up in the near future. The November 30 playlist includes new tracks by The Ocean Floor, Nicholas Jaar / Theatre Roosevelt, Rhye, GLISS and Dangerous Cans, among others. (more…)

Last week I returned to the present with only a few throwbacks to the 90s toward the end of the show. The split digital/vinyl show featured new tracks from Sleeping Bag, The Babies, Sweater Girls, Gospel Claws, Suturee and Thunder Power. We also featured a few favorites since the year 2000 with tracks by The Anniversary, Tvärvägen and The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. (more…)

I had Friday off and ended up spending most of the day sanding down cabinets. They came out looking great; a natural light pine distressed with a hint of dark stain peeping through. Ultimately they will get two light coats of matte brown followed by white paint and distressed lightly. (more…)

Exlovers have the pop and bounce of bands like The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, but without the overabundant fuzz and rampant hype. Exlovers have also been likened to everyone from Stars to The Smashing Pumpkins. You can hear all three references on their new album, Moth, but Exlovers succeed in defining their own sound. (more…)

Andi and I went to the beach this past weekend. And now we’re engaged, around five years and five days after our official first date. We’re pretty excited and have been talking to all our old friends about the plans (completely unofficial at this time); most likely a June 2013 wedding. Last weekend Andi and I visited Anacortes and walked around the dock, discussing our future as polo-shirt-wearing yacht owners and shopping for the ideal water home. Sure, this fantasy may never come to pass, and while I may find myself in a polo shirt now and again, that doesn’t mean the boat life is for me. Still, seeing middle-aged to retirees playing cards on the stern and barbecuing sure made the life seem relaxing. (more…)

It finally happened. Winter arrived. Snow fell and we woke up this past Sunday with about three inches of the stuff. I’m glad it didn’t arrive earlier, as Friday saw me at KSVR for a four hour stint of music. (more…)
