It’s day three of my top 50 countdown, meaning we’re in the middle and doing #30 down to #21. Par with how the previous two have gone, we begin with a pair of honorary mentions.

Visiting the parents is often a stressful time. Despite their incessantly busy schedules, they have actually learned to relax in retirement despite their hectic lifestyle. I visited them two weekends ago now. Hence the absence of an August 17 radio show recap; there was none. Instead, I participated in my brother’s wedding.
Pet The Ghost continues Darlings‘ trend of producing great, lazy summer garage pop. Their new single highlights the two sides of the Brooklyn-based band. “Pet The Ghost” is full-on garage pop, but within it Darlings produce the sweltering hot, lazy summer sound. “Shelley”, on the other hand, is much louder and more upbeat.
I had Friday off and ended up spending most of the day sanding down cabinets. They came out looking great; a natural light pine distressed with a hint of dark stain peeping through. Ultimately they will get two light coats of matte brown followed by white paint and distressed lightly.
It’s hard to imagine that just a few short months ago we were enjoying sunny summer days. 2011 was my best year yet, having achieved a few milestones: four and a half years running FensePost, riding my bike from Seattle to Portland and logging over 1,000 total on those two wheels between January and December,… Continue reading FensePost Top 24: The Best EPs of 2011
This show began like any other, but without the transition difficulties. All was smooth. The music, on the other hand, was not. In 2009, Darlings‘ debut LP, Yeah I Know, cracked my top ten albums of the year. Well the NYC-based garage rock band is back with a new EP, due to drop on Famous Class Records in mid-March. If “Big Girl” is a tell-tale sign of what’s to come, Warma promises to be just as raucous… Continue reading Darlings: Big Girl [Video]
2009 is a tough year to judge. I’ve checked out more albums this year than any year in the past. Well over 1,000. And there have been quite a few great ones as well. When this list began, it had 110 albums. I abandoned my top 33 and 1/3 for 45, and then said “screw… Continue reading FensePost Top 50: The Best Albums of 2009
Not too long ago, Grant (aka. The Gumshoe of The Gumshoe Grove) and I pieced together some questions for Darlings, one of our mutual favorite bands from 2009. Some were a little odd, some funny, some flat out dumb. They were kind enough to provide us with some answers, no matter how ridiculous the questions.… Continue reading A Darlings Interview
