To say that 2018 has been somewhat of a tumultuous year would be an understatement. It’s been erratic and transformative for sure, filled with chaos and excitement and monumental, life changing catalysts. Upheaval, though, doesn’t have to be a bad thing. But even good, it requires periods of adjustment, rejuvenation, and contemplation–especially for a classic… Continue reading Falling Man: A Mixtape for a Tumultuous Year
Yep, I’m getting married in a few days, so I figured it was time to put together a love-themed radio show. I tried to keep it centered around positive love songs, but with indie music, but a few oddities slipped in. In true form, I also made it my latest vinyl-only night.
Alright. Let me just say that this Beach House video is totally amazing. It features Ray Wise, best known for his role as Laura Palmer’s father Leland Palmer in David Lynch’s epic Twin Peaks series. “Wishes”, directed by Eric Wareheim, is equally as imaginative, other-worldly and surreal as Wise’s famed role.
It’s day three of my top 50 countdown, meaning we’re in the middle and doing #30 down to #21. Par with how the previous two have gone, we begin with a pair of honorary mentions.
Damn. The Bimmer done broke down. Once it warms up, it refuses to hold an idle. I did some research over at BMW 2002 FAQ and found that it could be one of a number of things: a faulty ignition coil, a fuel mixture issue, the carb needs tuning, the timing is off… the list… Continue reading Fense’s Radio Show: June 1, 2012
Teen Dream, Beach House‘s last LP, came in as my number 2 album of 2010. Within its cover are 10 songs, not a single one weak. Beach House is back with Myth off their forthcoming album Bloom and if this song is telltale for what we can expect, the new album could be a solid… Continue reading Beach House: Myth
I haven’t had much time of late to write. The house project of repainting walls, painting trim, pulling up carpets, and laying down bamboo has absolutely dominated my time. That and working on my BMW, which in the past few weeks has received a full tune-up (with exception of replacing points and cleaning the carb).
When Shabazz Palaces played their first ever live show on the 8th day of 2010 it was too early in the year to know how special it would be for live music, but by mid-April I had a pretty good idea 2010 was to be truly great for live music in my life (non-live music… Continue reading N8’s 12 Favorite Concerts of 2010
Intro from Fense. It’s hard to believe I’ve known Nate for about a decade. We first met, if I were to make an honest guess, in the fall of 2001. I don’t believe either of our musical inclinations had yet been established, mine for writing and critiquing and his for DJing and working at Seattle’s… Continue reading N8’s Top 10 Albums of 2010
The problem with so-called best-of lists, is that they are really just a collection of items organized based on experience and time, in that there will be plenty of albums heard the following year and beyond that will hold just as much weight as these we dub as “Best.” So, as of right now, at… Continue reading FensePost Top 33 and 1/3: The Best Albums of 2010
