A Sneak Peek at The Legends’ Forthcoming Nightshift LP

The Legends & Johan Angergard

I feel like “Cash” has been a long time coming for Swedish artist The Legends. As I’ve noted on several occasions over the past decade here on FensePost, with each new release The Legends delves into a new faction of music. “Cash”, the new single off the forthcoming LP Nightshift is no exception.

So, what do I mean by a long time coming?

It was evident as early as The Legends’ second LP that there was an underlying, burgeoning electronic force waiting to be unleashed. Yes, I’m taking about their 2005 LP Public Radio. This was even more apparent on the follow up from one year later, Facts And Figures, which I just had to pull out tonight:

After some gaps which also dabbled to some extent in the electronic, the Johan AngergÃ¥rd solo project released It’s Love in 2015. And through it all, I’ve long thought the dive into a holistically electronic album would eventually come.

Pair with that two undoubtably electropop releases from AngergÃ¥rd’s Club 8 project, a dark electronic release he created with frontwoman Elin Berlin under the name Eternal Death, and a subtle eletroic EP under a project called Djustin…and all of that within the past few years.

A single listen to “Cash” tells me that day may be here, with a heavy synth and vocals channeled through a vocoder. It’s dark. It’s fun. I dig it. Check out “Cash” below:

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard AngergÃ¥rd take on a vocoder. If I’m not mistaken, I believe he used something similar on “Heart”, the opening track to Facts And Figures.

“Cash” follows the release of another single off the forthcoming Nightshift LP titled “Summer in the City (Living is for Somebody Else)” which blends the pleasant lyrical sounds he created on It’s Love, but with a more dance-worthy beat:

Nightshift will debut April 22 on Labrador Records. Loving the music and glad to see Johan has, like me, retained the mustache after all these years.
