Rose Windows Return with ‘There Is A Light’

One of my favorite new artists of 2013 was Seattle’s Rose Windows. Their debut LP, The Sun Dogs, on Sub Pop was a luscious array of mildly psych-induced folk rock fronted by Rabia Shaheen Qazi exotic vocals. It continues: Rose Windows have now given us a first taste of life beyond The Sun Dogs with a new single (also on Sub Pop) for “There Is A Light”.

Others have traisped this arena before, as recently as the now popular Edward Sharpe — this blend of West-meets-East influenced folk-rock, this yearning for a more obscure and visionary sound. I didn’t make the connection at the time, but there were several points of overlay between The Sun Dogs and Sharpe’s debut, Up From Below. Primarily the aforementioned.

There Is A Light b/w Fix Me Another One continues the grandeur folk-rock Rose Windows gave us on The Sun Dogs. Where “There Is A Light” fits comfortably up against their debut’s star tracks like “Native Dreams”, “Walkin’ With A Woman” and “Wartime Lovers” thanks to a more driving rock force, “Fix Me Another One” flirts with time changes and a more experimental side of folk-rock.

Listen to “There Is A Light” below and grab the single from Sub Pop before it goes out of stock.
