The Mary Onettes returned last week with their new album, Portico, now out on Swedish label Labrador Records. The band maintains their somewhat dark, 80s style of pop, like a softer, smoother New Order. It’s most obvious in the short LPs second single “Native Dreamâ€.
States front-man Philip Ekström about the inspiration behind many of the songs on Portico:
…this year has also been a lot about photographs. Endless pages in photo books has been a major influence for us. The pictures have served as portals into colors and emotions. I even sleep with the books in my bed.
