September Girls’ Debut LP ‘Cursing the Sea’ is Out Now on Fortuna Pop!

September Girls

Oh September Girls. These days, your heavily distorted female dominated pop group is somewhat run-of-the-mill. That sound blew up in the indie masses with Vivan Girls, and it continued with spinoffs Frankie Rose, Best Coast and La Sera. Hell, you even hear a bit of that sound in Woods-related band The Babies.

Yes, September Girls fits right in; and yet, they seem more influenced by the early Vivian Girls singles and those that initially influenced that band. I can hear Talulah Gosh, Tender Trap and maybe even a little C86 hiding in the distortion and fuzz.

I’ve been a fan of September Girls for a while, having grabbed their single Wanting More from Matinee Records. The new LP matches that single with great tunes like title track “Cursing The Sea” and “Left Behind”. If you dig that gritty garage-y girl group sound, there’s plenty to love here.

The new LP, Cursing The Sea, is September Girls’ debut LP and it’s out now on Fortuna POP! Listen to Heartbeats from the new LP below:
