Moodoïd: De Folie Pure (NSFW Video)

Moodoïd

Moodoïd

Pablo Padovani, son of cult jazz musician Jean-Marc Padovani and guitarist for Melody’s Echo Chamber, goes solo with Moodoïd. Somewhat reminiscent of the erratic nature of GOAT (at least in “De Folie Pure”) and the modern glam Of Montreal has come to encompass, with Moodoïd Padovani creates a mash-up of world music and psychedelic pop. And it’s all in French.

“De Folie Pure” features a similar percussion and bass-line to that you’ll hear on GOAT’s Dreambuilding single or Club 8’s superb 2010 LP The People’s Record: heavy emphasis on rapidly beat toms and and equally notable melodic bass. Moodoïd goes on to employ French, baroque-pop-meets-Eastern and Oriental pop in guitars and vocals.

That and modern psych-pop — his background as guitarist for Melody’s Echo Chamber and the fact that Moodoïd’s self-titled EP was mixed by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker will tell you that.

You definitely get the mistique Moodoïd possesses in the new video for “De Folie Pure”. Check out the not safe for work “De Folie Pure” video (it features a few topless women) and listen to the EP’s opening track “Je suis la montagne” (which translates to “I am the Mountain”) below.

Moodoïd EP came out September 10 on Paris-based Third Side Records.
