You know, I remember picking up Love And Distance by The Helio Sequence upon its release way back in 2004. The band was young then; well, younger. Funny to think the release date of that album is rapidly approaching a decade past.
In 2008, they followed up that album, which was their third, with Keep Your Eyes Ahead. The fourth record showed maturation and a slight move away from the more happy, upbeat synth-based melodic pop from the band’s younger days. On September 11, 2012, The Helio Sequence will release their fifth LP, Negotiations.
Tucked within is “October”, one of the first singles from the album. And, as you’d expect given the tenor of this post, the band has continued to mature and progress as musicians. Lyrics are more thought-provoking, deeper and highly personal. Instrumentation, too, has advanced tremendously since Love And Distance. Like the lyrics and vocals, there’s more emotion.
Keep an eye out for “October” and Negotiations, out tomorrow (September 11) on Sub Pop.
