From Jesse Rifkin, who you might recognize from his previous band The Wailing Wall, comes a new project called Jane Eyre. Their new song is “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York” and it boasts, according to Rifkin, a sound that combines his “bandmates’ collective years spent as conservatory-trained jazz musicians, meltalhead shredders, musical theatre accompanists, italo disco deejays, and ambient drone obsessives.”
In other words, this is quite the departure from what we knew as The Wailing Wall.
On my radio show last week, I likened the change to that we saw most recently in the band Destroyer. Once a folk-based artist, Bejar’s latest release Kaputt saw quite a change as well. Both artists leave behind the edgy folk they once dominated, replacing it with something somewhat indescribable.
It may take some getting-used-to. Took me two runs through the song, then I was hooked.
As of yet, Rifkin has not set a drop date for the album, which he notes was just completed. Check out “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York” below.
