Ramesh: Berlin Without Return

Voxtrot - Live at Neumos in Seattle, December 2007

If you’ve been a long-time reader of FensePost, you know I’m a pretty big fan of Voxtrot. The obsession began upon the release of the band’s debut EP, Raised By Wolves. I quickly snapped up the 7-inch singles for the EP’s title track as well as the epic “The Start Of Something”, both of which have now been long out of print and are quite hard to find.

It continued with their subsequent EPs and their self-titled full length. Right up through their last 7-inch single, Berlin Without Return, which I purchased but sadly never received. (I let the band keep the cash; after all, I could be listed among their biggest fans.)

Ex-front-man Ramesh is back with a live acoustic version of “Berlin Without Return”, which surfaced yesterday on Brooklyn Vegan. The song will be featured on a compilation called Snacky Tunes (Volume 2) by DJ-foodies Darin and Greg Bresnitz. It was recorded on their show.

“Berlin Without Return” is one of the band’s more emotive, introspective, and quieter tunes. It’s not the bouncy pop I initially fell in love with from Voxtrot, but it’s good (as all Voxtrot tunes are) and it still packs plenty of pop punch.

Check out the track below and let me know what you think.

Side note 1: Head over to Ramesh’s site and stream his new three-song EP.

Side note 2: I took the above photo at a Voxtrot show in Seattle way back in December 2007. The band was playing a Neumos and I was lucky enough to catch a few good shots of the band.
