Soaked in reverb, White Birds‘ dreamy psychedelic beach pop tune “Hondora” is just what I need. It hints of a day brighter than today; fog sits low outside my house and there’s the stench of a standard Northwest rain in the air. “Hondora” has a sunny disposition that is calming and relaxing, and there is a hint of sadness that keeps it from being overly upbeat. As I said, perfect for today.
The video is a wash of muted color, hints at longing and romance, and filled with dreamy shots. Directed by Ashley Connor, it has the feel of other recent dream-pop videos. That’s not a bad thing; this cohesiveness. It’s current (despite the somewhat retro feel to the film and cameras used) and it works well with the song.
“Hondora” is on White Birds’ new LP, When Women Played Drums, available digitally on bandcamp. Grab and watch “Hondora” below.
