Crocodiles: Sunday (Psychic Conversation #9)

Crocodiles

French Kiss Records is poised to release the new LP, Endless Flowers, by Crocodiles. They’re giving away the first mp3 from the album, and it’s apparently supposed to make you fall in love with them all over again. So, let’s see if it lives up to that quite substantial line.

The opening lines are just as loud and catchy as the top tracks off 2009’s debut LP, Summer of Hate. The vocals hit shortly thereafter, and… yep. I’m hooked.

Lyrics on “Sunday (Psychic Conversation #9)” are almost fully decipherable, but not quite. You get a taste of what’s going on here and there, and you can tell there’s more meat in there than before. This song has depth and heart; it’s not just discordant noise brought into a wild garage-fueled harmony.

“Sunday” forces you to listen harder, and gives you a reason to do so. Receiving a song like this well in advance of the album’s June drop date is a cruel tease. It makes you want to hear what you’re missing from the rest of Endless Flowers; makes you want to hear it immediately. It strikes within you quite the longing.

Look for Endless Flowers on French Kiss Records, to be released June 5. Two damn long months away.
