What is that glimmering light reflecting off the empty RC Cola can on my window sill? The sun is not shining, but everything seems so bright. That’s when I realized that is was a spirit from an estranged universe shining in and talking to me through my iTunes, its Anja McCloskey singing “Instigate It”. And that is much better anyway! This American-German singer-songwriter and accordionist, who resides in the UK, has a specifically fine-tuned set of vocals that tell of how the heavens can come crashing down on to us at any moment; it’s simply enlightening. So we better start loving now.
Anja may be a bit better known as 1/6th of the Southampton based indie rock gathering knowing as Haunted Stereo. But our heroine has decided to step out directly into the spotlight she tends to resonate on audiences already. Her debut solo EP, Turn Turn Turn is nothing less than phenomenal and a perfect invocation of Anja’s spirit being passed along to us, the lucky listeners.
And what is better yet? Our sweet Anja is coming to America! Yes, ten lucky cities throughout the Midwest are will be graced with the presence of this magical Meriwether musician. McCloskey has formed a brilliant band to assist her on triumphant return to the dust bowls and snowy hills of our nation. Guitarist Andy Harris, also of Haunted Stereo, will be coming along to throw in that wee bit of spirit we are already accustomed to.
