Hosannas [Feature]

Portland’s Hosannas are many things. They’re the two person offspring of the former local favorite band Church. They’re a (now) duo with a broadening array of styles that move way beyond basic experimental rock. They’re a band that pushes the barriers between indie rock and alternative hip hop further and further apart with each prolific beat they create. But, despite all these qualities, they’re a band that is certainly one thing – magnificent!

Richard and Brandon, the remaining forces from Church and the new Hosannas, have moved forward in a serious way. Moving with the strength of a full band, the duo has begun touring on the strength of their full band release from earlier this year, Then & Now & Then, a Hush Records recording which features a brilliant array of down tempo beats, as well as uplifting, almost spiritual, vibes that penetrate your being whether heard live or in the privacy of your own Honda. They’ve also released a new cut, “When We Were Young”, that demonstrates their vibrant versatility even greater than their previous works. With hopes of recording yet another album this fall, this track definitely serves as a wonderful template for the brilliance that is sure to be the future of Hosannas.

A Hosannas live show is one that is not be missed either. Be sure check out their cross country fall tour schedule on their website. The odds are in your favor that they will be playing in a neighborhood near you. I had the pleasure of seeing them live this past weekend, opening for Finn Riggans – the photos below are further testament to this band’s greatness.
