Viking Dress: Lalie’s Game [Video]

French group Viking Dress is new to me, but their sound flirts with the same from a lot of the artists I’ve been listening to of late so it’s a welcome introduction. Band’s new EP, titled Summarize, was produced by Frederic Landini (Get Back Guinozzi) and mixed by David Wrench (Caribou, Bat For Lashes) and it includes “Lalie’s Game”.

There are two very distinct sounds here. First is the dreamy, psychedelic sounds somewhere along the lines of a lo-fi version of Warpaint. Second is the beachy, folky nature familiar to Woodsist and (to a certain extent) select artists on Mexican Summer. The key difference is language – the band blends male and female vocals in French and backs it with soft lo-fi acoustic psych pop pleasantries.

The “Lalies’ Game” video is not what you’d expect from such a tune, but it works. Simply put, things explode in slow motion. It’s a great, light indie pop tune that you surely won’t want to miss.
