First listening to “Rat People” by The Jameses, one is reminded of experimental electronic pop artists like Candy Claws and Dinosaur Feathers. It features a similar, highly melodic set of beats and guitars that swirl and echo when not pumping out a playful riff. And the vocals carry a deep, sleepy weight that counters the music in the most interesting of ways. “The Haunted Rider” follows suit, with equally catchy guitar and captivating pop vocals. There’s less electronics, but that merely heightens the pop factor. The Haunted Rider & Rat People in a compelling single, making The Jameses an exciting new band more than worthy of a little attention.
