There’s no question about it, Helen Earth Band will remind you of Pinback. They have that same angular sound, the borderline math-rock guitar and a harmonic vocal styling that band mastered. Directed and edited by Phill Tornroth and Marc Allen respectively, “(We All) Talk With Knives” is a different approach to filming a band during a performance. They treat it more like setting up microphones — one close to each guitar, one down by the bass drum, one for all three vocalists, a few more scattered here and there. It works, in my opinion, much better than the typical let’s just film the band doing what they do. Much better, to the point where I say I really, really like it. Plus, you can’t go wrong with the song, which has its fair share of greatness as well.
