Silence Is Sexy & The Royal Republican Orchestra: This Is Hollywood EP [Album Review]

To celebrate Silence Is Sexy’s full year of success after 2009’s Euronet sensation This Ain’t Hollywood, the Netherlands’ finest group has developed quite a treat for the listeners they picked up over the last 365 days or so. Teaming up with the fantastic Cuban Royal Republican Orchestra, these electro-rockers have developed the very cleverly titled EP, This Is Hollywood. Their high paced energy and strong verbal stamina can now be heard in an all new fashion — one which prefers tears way over fears.

The classical overtures that act as the base and form of This Is Hollywood are extremely elaborate. The amazing redux of the single “This Ain’t Hollywood” gives a whole new, less glam-filled take on the track. As good as the original cut was, the orchestrated version might just be up to par with it’s predecessor. The preceding three original tracks are more demonstrations of the versatility Silence Is Sexy holds.

This is obviously a collection built for the die-hard fans lurking in the dark alleyways across the globe. And if you thought their 2009 EP was a distant cry from the raw energy of their debut album, Everything You Should Know, this EP will definitely shock your world as these gifted euro trash troubadours dropped a bit of symphony on that ass. The real fan base will definitely understand. But, if you’re just tuning into Silence Is Sexy, don’t be surprised when you hear their previous work. Just be impressed.
