Stepping off the band bandwagon, Holly Miranda has decided to go solo. And with a recent 7″ (Forest Green), an EP (Sleep On Fire) and now a forthcoming LP due out late this month on XL Recordings (The Magician’s Private Library), her new project is set to take off.
She’s been on the road, touring the states and then some with a few of last year’s favorites: The Antlers, The XX, AA Bondy — not a list at which to scoff. So as things wind down she stepped into Viva Radio’s Me+You studio in NYC for a jaw session and some musical tinkerings with host Ted Shumaker. Here’s the word:
We hit a solid #70 with Holly Miranda on this edition of Me + You! Soild fursure, in that it has all of the essential ingredients of a classic M+Y: charismatic musician, sense of humor intact, run-through of abridged life story, and 90’s alt-rock cover song included in the set. Hecque, it even has a Michigan connection for Ted to latch onto!
For those who don’t already know, Holly is a solo singer/songwriter who up until recently was frontwoman of prominent indie group The Jealous Girlfriends. While the JGF’s were definitely a force to be reckoned with, apparently Holly was ready to pick up where her Sidewalk Cafe open-mic’in’, 16-yr old dreamin’ self left off.
Tune to Viva Radio at noon for Holly’s session with Me+You, and visit the Viva Radio blog later for the inside scoop. Here’s a track from the session, Miranda doing a cover of Tool’s “Ænima”. Please do not re-host this track, but feel free to link to this page or the Viva Radio site.
