A recent review of Francis’ self-titled EP found me dubbing them as Swedish pub music. It’s also the first thing I think of when listening to The Drones: sweet, beautiful intoxication. And it’s not just because their music is intoxicating, as it most certainly is; it’s the sloppy guitar riffs and over pronunciation of words as heard throughout “The Minotaur”.

The song blends this… this drunk sound with the craziness that makes bands like O’Death so great. Filter in a bit of early Modest Mouse, a sound that has the ability to blow your f*ing face off, then get punched in the stomach and you’ll spit out something along the lines of The Drones.

The Drones will be playing Sunday Night at my second favorite Seattle venue (a close second to only The Croc), Sunset Tavern. And for my Portland readers, you can catch them Monday at Someday Lounge.
